The rest of the story together

Before Grace came to the scene there was only a document stating that we intended to help orphans and a building we intended to house them in. The day that Grace came and took her place in Namugongo we also accepted 4 girls who were left on their own with little to no care at all. They were staying in a slum area in Kampala and from what we could see, they were not protected at all. A lady with another organization asked us for help to get them out of that situation. Those where our first kids. The youngest of them was 5 years old. Officially we can accept kids only from 6 years onwards but you know...

In the beginning we had the kids walking to another school about 6 Km away from us. That was obviously not acceptable and we were looking into a way of changing that. We also discovered that at the time there was a lot of public outcry about some of the not-to-good organized orphanages and we noticed that we, and the kids would be better of if we would choose the approach of educational care. That is what was decided and we started looking into registering a boarding school. We appointed a lady to be the academic supervisor of the school and she was to do all the registration and setting of standards.

The first class was started in 1993 with 9 children only. It was taught by our first teacher; the late Miss. Phoebe Kituyi. She was a great encouragement to us. That year I felt it was right for Grace and myself to be together and I asked her to be my wife. It was not a small decision and we took some time before we both felt right about it considering our totally different culture. Well, on January 22 1994 we said "yes" and where married in the Kampala Pentecostal Church. This very year, 1994, the academic supervisor of the school resigned to start her own school. Therefore Grace took up the challenge of heading the school.

From that time on we where a strong team. We can see that it was really God's plan for our life. The mission grew bigger and bigger and today we have a population of almost 150 children and 30 staff. The Mission was officially opened this year 2000 in February and at that same time we launched a church under the care of KPC. Grace and myself are heading that church today maybe until we will find a suitable pastor, for the church members are a rather unusual young gathering.

On site we now have a full Primary boarding school, A clinic both for us and the villagers around us, the church and finally we started a secondary-vocational school.
